Helen A Harrison’s An Artful Corpse

1960’s New York….
An Artful Corpse takes the reader into the culture,
music and art culture during the 1960’s. It was
fun delving into the various art and music artists.
This book of historical fiction was creative and so
well written that the reader will experience antiwar
demonstrations taking place in Union Square,
draft dodgers, underground to Canada, burning
draft cards, men and women coming out of the
closet, the Chelsea Hotel. the Automat, Carnegie
Deli, Bitter End, Max’s Kansas City (a nightclub
featuring folk songs) plus painters, writers,
musicians like Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan plus
Pete Seeger and popular artist like Andy Warhol
and Regionalist painter Thomas Hart Benton.
Manhattan is the location of a famous art school
where TJ Fitzgerald is taking a class. TJ is the son
of NYPD Captain Brian Fitzgerald and Detective
Juanita Diaz.
Thomas Hart Benton is discovered dead. Murdered
in one of the studios in the famous art school. Who
was guilty of the dastardly deed?
Since a lot of people didn’t approve oh him, there
are a multitude of suspects.
There is a touch of romance brewing between TJ
and a female student in his art class who becomes
his helper in the investigation to clear an student
acquaintance at the art school and find the guilty culprit.
I delighted in visiting New York and it’s various districts.
I was very interested in learning more about the people,
their backgrounds, their backstories and their living
conditions in 1960’s New York.
This is book # 3 in the Art of Murder Mysteries series.
It can be read as a stand alone as the author provides
enough backstory mixed with the present.
I volunteered to read An Artful Corpse. Thanks to the
author and publisher via Cozy Mystery Review Crew.
My opinion is voluntary and my own.
