Course Description

What should you consider when you use other people’s creative work?

This course for high school students will challenge you to consider the differences between being inspired by creative work of others and using that work without permission. You’ll first learn about appropriation, copyright, and fair use. You’ll then examine a case study about the band Led Zeppelin and the songs they appropriated. Finally, you will reflect on the ethical and legal issues surrounding practices like remixing and sampling, and consider the different perspectives that stakeholders in the music industry might have of them.

Note: This course is intended for high school students and is designed to take about 45-60 minutes to complete.
