Description
The Balkans can be defined as that borderland geographical space in which four of the world's greatest civilizations overlapped in a sustained and meaningful way to produce a complex, dynamic, sometimes combustible, multilayered local civilization. It is the space in which the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome, of Byzantium, of Ottoman Turkey, and of Roman Catholic Europe met, clashed and sometimes combined.

Poor showing in general from my alma mater
It's a sad state of affairs when a school acclaimed for its informatics department possesses an abject selection on iTunes U. I graduated with a B.A. In History in 1999 with a minor concentration in philosophy. I expect more from my school and specifically the History Department. There is absolutely no excuse not to have the wealth of courses schools like UC Berkeley maintain. I'm shocked the department doesn't expect more of its graduate students in assisting the school's excellent staff in archiving critical lectures in multimedia formats. They really could use some forward thinking students and staff to modernize the discipline at IU. We must not become part of an antediluvian prejudice in pursuit of historical truth!
