Robert Payo and Stephanie Chasteen trek across the poles to find ways to help you teach science in your elementary classroom. We tackle common misconceptions your students might have about science using stories, teaching activities, and the latest news related to the poles. Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears is an online professional development magazine for elementary teachers on how to integrate inquiry-based science and literacy teaching with a focus on the polar regions. An integrated approach can increase students' science knowledge, academic language, reading comprehension, and written and oral discourse abilities.
