Description
Today, Americans think of medicine as a science. Yet, historically, medicine has been closely linked to folk cures and herbal remedies. The same holds true of medicine in Appalachia. The knowledge of illness, caring for the sick, medicinal plants, and sometimes superstitions has been passed down through generations and has been relied on to relieve innumerable health complaints and maladies. The following playlist is a sampling medical approaches found in the collections of the Archives of Appalachia.
