Description
This general introduction to Christianity in the Reformation and Post-Reformation eras focuses on the key persons, movements and ideas that have made significant contributions to the history of the Church. Special attention is given to exploring how experiences and insights from the Christian past inform contemporary faith and practice. By the end of the course, students should have a general grasp of Christian history during these periods and a basic knowledge of the major personalities and ecclesiastical issues of the 15th through 18th centuries in Europe and the young United States.

Worthwhile
I did not register for the course or read the assigned material.
This is a survey course of church history from the Reformation on, but almost all of it addresses the Reformation. I wish that there were a History of Christianity III to address the post-Reformation church. Dr. Fortson suggested that The Church and the World is something like that, but having listened to it, it’s not quite the same.
This course featured several videos including Luther, Zwingli, and Tyndale. Obviously, that doesn’t work for iTunes. All one gets is a muffled audio of the video that is shown in the actual class being taped.
This course is largely a narrative as opposed to a more rigorous college history class. There are no comparative perspectives from various scholars. Instead, it gives only Dr. Fortson’s perspective.
I was pleased that Dr. Fortson did present the Catholic Reformation and he did so with reasonable objectivity. I was also grateful that he discussed the marriage of John Wesley, about which I’ve heard nothing anywhere else.
