The Casebook of Violet Strange was performed ‘live’ on Tequila Radio on Friday, 11 June 2010. The play was specially written for the University by Diane Lake, a working screenwriter who has written films for Columbia, Disney, Miramax, Paramount and NBC. Her play, Frida, was nominated for six Academy Awards in 2003. The production was directed by Richard Hand, produced by Mary Traynor, the sound effects were devised by Rob Dean and the music composed by Ben Challis. The performers included staff colleagues Stephen Lacey and Geraint D’Arcy as well as drama, music and media students from CCI and RWCMD. It’s a light hearted detective thriller in the old-time radio style of golden age of American radio drama of the 1930s-50s, when radio was at the very heart of family entertainment. The story features the exploits of the plucky young heroine, Violet Strange, as she solves a series of mysterious burglaries in 1920s England.
