Exactly What An Interview-Style Podcast Should Be
I rarely write reviews. I suppose I take podcasts for granted, even the good ones, which are quite rare. They play such a key role in my day-to-day life, which perhaps allows me to take them for granted. I’m a postgrad living in London and every day I walk to campus at UCL from my flat in North London. It takes about an hour, so I start a podcast when I leave and it usually ends just before I arrive. I discovered Entitled Opinions about a month ago and since then I haven’t listened to anything else. This is exactly what a podcast in this style should be. Robert Harrison has such a keen sense for knowing when to speak, when and where to turn the direction of the conversation, and which remarks warrant/require further elucidation. The pacing, which is the hardest thing to get right in these podcasts, is spot on. His questions are always thoughtful and authoritative, he’s able to be skeptical without being overly aggressive or dogmatic. The topics are perfect. I haven’t found another podcast with this kind of breadth and consistency (in that the topics are consistently fascinating yet diverse). I can’t say enough, but I realise that I’m already rambling. If you’ve listened to a few episodes, keep listening; you’ll be hooked.
(I really hope you do more episodes in 2014.)
