Description
Over time, the Roman Catholic Church has celebrated Marian Years, Rosary Years, Eucharistic Years and Holy Years (both ordinary and extraordinary). Now, Pope Benedict XVI has announced the observance of the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Saint Paul of Tarsus, the Apostle to the Gentiles, as the Pauline Year. The Pauline Year runs from June 29, 2008, to June 29, 2009. Paul was born in Tarsus, in what is now Turkey, near the beginning of the Christian era. What day, precisely, he was born is unknown, of course. The reasonable assumption on the part of Pope Benedict was that Paul was a younger contemporary of Jesus, but not an entire generation younger. June 29th was chosen to begin and end the Pauline Year, since, according to the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar, that day is the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Listen, as professors from Aquinas Institute of Theology in Saint Louis, Missouri, reflect on Paul’s continuing impact on Christianity. We invite you to join with us throughout this year, as we ponder Paul’s preaching, his spirituality, his theology, and his role in building up the Christian community.
