This Emmy Award winning documentary focuses on court documents found in St. Louis that tell the inspiring story of courage when slaves from around the area fought for their freedom by challenging their owners in court prior to the Dred Scott decision. The curricula cover the Underground Railroad, the African Slave Trade and Primary and Secondary Source Material. These lessons meet the National History Standards, Grades 5-12, Historical Thinking Standards 1-Chronological Thinking; 2 – Historical Comprehension; 4 – Historical Research Capabilities; and 5 – Historical Issues, Analysis and Decision Making.
