Plot Summary

Fresh: An intelligent, well-made and seductive movie.
Fresh: Washington's steely grip on his impersonation of Frank Lucas holds the film together.
Rotten: For all its grit, style and atmosphere, Gangster never sweeps you away. It has neither the lurid bravado of De Palma's "Scarface" nor the intimate grasp of the criminal lifestyle you find in Scorsese or Coppola.
Fresh: American Gangster is an enjoyable double character study, and the movie's length ultimately becomes an advantage.

The Best Movie in Cinematography History
This movie is incredible , Denzel and Russle's acting were so amazingly moving and captavating. Absolutley rent this and if you can buy this.
Magnificent Acting!
Denzel is amazing as usual and Russel Crowe gives his standard stellar performance. The only thing about this i didnt like is that Washington is such a likable guy that his character seemed almost good. And what he did shouldnt be enticing at all. But thats barely a problem, so this movie rocks!
Classic
Although the plot is the typical rise and fall of a gangster, the parallel story of Russel Crowe's good cop character is a good counter-point. Plenty of action, light on politics, this movie is a great rental. Nothing encapsulates the difference between Washington and Crowe as the Thanksgiving scene does - Denzel's character at a large table with several juice turkeys, while Crowe's cop spoons turkey out of a can and crunches potato chips on top of his sandwich. You will not regret this rental.
