Plot Summary

"This," said Prosecutor Leroy New, "has been the most terrible crime ever committed in the state of Indiana; the first crime of child abuse that broke through reticence and denial to register with the public." In Tommy O'Haver's heartbreaking and hard-hitting film, An American Crime, Academy Award nominee Catherine Keener portrays Gertrude Baniszewski, the seemingly ordinary housewife who imprisons and tortures a beautiful teenager, played by Academy Award nominee Ellen Page, in the basement of her house. Two portrayals that will resonate with audiences long after they leave the theatre. An American Crime also stars James Franco and Bradley Whitford.

Worth every penny

I normally cry in sad movies, but this one had me bawling. Definately worth watching over and over. I would even pay $20 to watch this. Ellen Page gives a startling performance, as far from her Juno character as it could get.

Great Movie! Sad Story! Must See!

I watched this with my mother just for the fun of watching a movie. We were like OMFG! It was so sad to see what this girl had to go through and yet it was phenominal because the characters were so so precise. It keeps your eyes glued to the screen for the whole movie, well except for the breath taking cover your eyes scenes! Ellen Page is an Amazing actor so I wasnt suprised to become a major fan for this movie!

Most brilliant movie I've ever seen

I've seen many movies but I have never seen one as good as this. Real story, real life. Worth paying any amount of money. Great cast, best performance of Ellen Page I've seen up to date. It is a must for anyone over 18.
