Plot Summary
Persecuted by an oppressive Communist government, a Hungarian couple (Nastassja Kinski and Tony Goldwyn) makes a daring flight for freedom. The escape is successful, but comes at an unthinkable price - the couple's baby girl, Suzanne, is left behind. Six years later, Suzanne is uprooted from the loving care of her Hungarian foster parents and reunited with her mother and father in California. She is awed by her new modern lifestyle and wonderful discoveries such as TV, boys and rock and roll. But as she grows, so do the questions about her mysterious past and heritage. Feeling lost and alienated, the teenaged Suzanne (Scarlett Johansson) returns to Hungary, embarking on a personal search that reveals some shocking secrets...and the true meaning of family, freedom and home.

Fresh: Gardos is not a particularly flavorful filmmaker, but she is an honest one.
Rotten: No filmmaker would build a story this unusual from scratch and then treat it so reverently without any style, humor or, at least, idiosyncratic observations.
Fresh: Manages to skirt the edge of excessive sentiment without falling victim to it.
Rotten: A near-great film for about an hour that changes into a self-indulgent mess.

This is a decent movie. The actors are sensational, however the story is a bit unbelievable.
Great Heart Work Out
One of my favorite emotionful movies. "Mistakes made out of love.." created heart rending life experiences with a happy ending.
Stunning Movie
Wow, such a good movie that really tugged at the heart. Worth the 3.00 to rent.
