Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The portrait of Anita O'Day that emerges in this documentary is of a woman who always lived by her own rules.
Fresh: Force of personality and terrific vintage performance clips make a keeper of Anita O'Day: The Life of a Jazz Singer.
Fresh: Alive with improvisational energy and rejecting the conventional biographical format, the film pursues ideas and feelings rather than chronology as it scats through an archival wealth of interviews with O'Day and some of her most inspired performances.
Fresh: An engaging if less than revelatory documentary.

One of the all time great jazz vocalists
PLEASE iTunes, I don't want to rent this movie, I want to buy it! Please sell this movie!
Anita is also featured on Jazz on a Summer's Day. Although not all of the performances are jazz, Anita's renditions of Sweet Georgia Brown and Tea for Two are unbelievable. It's also a "must own" for any jazz lover.
Like Time Mag says SUPERB
This is one of the best, funniest touching docs I have ever seen. All I can say is WOW!
Anita O'Day - Life of a jazz singer
What an incredible story! I believe I've discovered my new fave female singer through this documentary.
Literally, I was astounded by her talent and confounded how for 42 years I'd never ever been exposed to Miss O'Day, much less even heard of her!? Not only was her vocal tone silky soft and soothing, with a distinctive vibrato (said to be because of a botched Tonsillectomy), but the live performance footage here reveals she was a true improv genius with a stage-presence equal to none other. Miss O'Day clearly enjoyed entertaining her audience as much or more as she seemed to love interpreting the music itself.
I'd actually prefer to purchase this content for keeps. Hello, iTunes?
