Plot Summary
At 14, two Toronto schoolmates - Steve 'Lips' Kudlow and Robb Reiner - made a pact to rock together forever. They meant it. Forming the band Anvil in 1982, the duo released one of the heaviest albums of all time - Metal on Metal - influncing some of the biggest names in rock including Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. But while those bands went on to sell millions of albums and achieve international fame, Anvil's career took a different path - straight into obscurity. Until now... Director Sacha Gervasi brings us Anvil! The Story of Anvil - a brilliant, achingly hilarious, and surprisingly touching documentary about Anvil's last-ditch quest for fame and fortune. He joins the band members, now in their 50's, as they perform all over the world, record a new album and struggle to make ends meet. Providing an intimate, insigntful look into the band members' ever-supportive, yet long- suffering families, Anvil! The Story of Anvil is also a tale of survival - and the passion and drive it takes to follow your dream, year after year after year.

Fresh: An engaging account of the life and times of an obscure Canadian heavy-metal band.
Fresh: The new documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil succeeds every which way, as '80s metal nostalgia, as a twisted sort of reality-show attempt at a comeback, as an unexpectedly touching portrait of a friendship.
Fresh: Anvil! The Story of Anvil is a very funny documentary, following original band members Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner (seriously), on a disastrous European tour and an attempt at a comeback album.
Fresh: Anvil! is one of the sweetest, funniest films I've seen this year. Also the loudest and most foulmouthed.

There is no reason not to buy this movie, it is a lesson of survival. These two men, Lipps and Robb are two men that deserve your attention, even if you hate their music...I got a real good lesson of the music business for the majority, not the 1% that makes it for an album or two. The band Anvil was a band I knew of in the mid-1980's, but I never purchased their stuff because...who had them? I am in Northern Indiana, hair-metal country and even I didn't know what Anvil's stuff was. I feel somewhat ashamed of this, not because I am some trendy fan of theirs now, I'm not, I loved the movie and that is where I'm trying to go with this.
If you are in a band just starting, Lipps will explain to you via his actions or his words, on how the record industry will screw you at every turn if you want to be blind to it all. Hire a great management team, hire an attorney, make good music and have it promoted, otherwise, you'll be the next Anvil, one band that has some pretty heavy hitters that are their peers, but no recognition....until now. Congrats to Robb and Lipps, you guys deserve the success. Enjoy it, your movie made me happy to be alive, hopefully you guys are as well.

I love Spinal Tap - this is better
Better than Spinal Tap because it's real. You'll laugh at them, you'll laugh with them, you'll be disturbed by them and you'll come to love and root for them. What more do you want out of a rock movie?
