Fresh: Below may not mark Mr. Twohy's emergence into the mainstream, but his promise remains undiminished.
Rotten: If Below had been released in 1943 -- the year of its story -- it would have come in at an agile 70 minutes instead of a protracted 104.
Fresh: Twohy pulls all the strings to create an inventive genre piece.
Fresh: Twohy knows how to inflate the mundane into the scarifying, and gets full mileage out of the rolling of a stray barrel or the unexpected blast of a phonograph record.

I Liked It
Submarines have always creeped me out a little, and ghosts give me creeps too, so this movie was pretty scary to me. It takes a while to actually get interesting, but once it gets going, it doesn't slow down with the suspense and thrills. Some scenes try a little too hard, but it's pretty freaky for the most part. Good story, good acting, and good scares. About halfway through the movie, my friend and I noticed that one of the characters was played by Zach Galifianakis. It was interesting seeing him in a horror movie rather than his comedies The Hangover and Due Date. But all in all, this movie is definitely worth watching, but don't expect to be scared out of your mind, because it's not THAT scary.
