Plot Summary

This ground breaking action-packed documentary takes you back to the winter of 1975 in Hawaii —a dramatic moment in history when a group of young South African and Australian surfers sacrificed everything. They put it all on the line to create a sport, a culture, and an industry that is today worth billions of dollars and has captured the imagination of the world. A powerhouse film, the spell-binding action footage and fascinating subjects make 'Bustin' Down the Door' a surfing classic.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Happily, the filmmaker, Jeremy Gosch, puts his wide-eyed narrative together with an easy touch. With its amazing wall-to-wall footage of oceanic derring-do Bustin' Down the Door plays like visual air-conditioning. – Nathan Lee, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: With verve, style and a fine sense of the human side of surf culture, Jeremy Gosch makes a terrific splash with his debut doc. – Robert Koehler, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Bustin' Down the Door entertainingly captures surfing's last great hoorah of no-holds-barred radicalism. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The film tries to tell us that money hasn't spoiled the fun, but I was much more curious about the black shorts than the Quicksilver brand board shorts. – Reyhan Harmanci, San Francisco Chronicle, Aug 6, 2008

AWESOME !!! I started surfing when this was going down. To know part of the story is an honor. The bluntness, honesty, emotion, thrill, and drama of this documentary is a true tribute to these pioneers and their cohorts. This and The Z-Boys documentary are a must have if you lived/loved or want to understand the true variables of being a REBEL, OUTCAST, PIONEER, FREE-THINKER, INDIVIDUAL,etc.. I'm proud, to be a student of these times...

A great movie

I saw this in the theater and happily will buy and watch this film again.
