Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: A gift to imagination. – David Denby, New Yorker, Mar 5, 2009

Fresh: Employing stop-motion animation that renders human beings with the distinctive characteristics evident in both The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, Selick finds the perfect look to bring Gaiman's vision to life. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Dec 6, 2009

Fresh: It's wildly inventive, thoroughly amusing and fuelled by unhinged imagination. And it's creepy as all hell. – Simon Miraudo, Quickflix, Apr 4, 2011

Fresh: This dark edge will be the biggest test of the film as a commercial prospect: it may be too terrifying for the target audience. But for braver kids - and parents - this is a thrilling, even challenging ride. – Tom Huddlestone, Time Out, Jun 24, 2010

A movie that got it right,

I feel like this movie really shows progress in breaking up the childish image that american animated movies are stuck with today. This movie is really kind of a slap in the face to other animated movies saying 'you dont need talking gerbles doing karate to have a good movie'. Its a great movie. So well done. And so maticulous, it seems like they didnt take the easy way out in any aspect of making this movie. Which is hard to find in cimema today. I applaud Henry Selick. And by the way, TIM BURTON DID NOT MAKE THIS MOVIE. Tim Burton isnt even associated. The director of The Nightmare Before Chirstmas is Henry Selick. Tim Burton created the story for TNBC and characters, but did NOT direct it. So stop saying what a good job Tim Burton did on this movie because he didnt even do anything.

Coraline is one of the most spectacular films. With its twisted humor, and dark perception, it exceeded my expectations. From the commercials it didn't see like much, but after seeing it in 3D, it felt like a dream. I was hooked through the entire film, not wanting to leave the theatre. Director, Henry Selick, did a good job separating the book and movie, and making then equal in similarity and uniqueness. The storyline was what drew me in the most. It wasn't clique, and it was a good sense of creepy. I read the book, and watched the movie, and I am satisfied with both.

Absolutely Amazing!

Since a lot of you won't want to read long reviews, you'll just need to know the following. The animation is wonderful and the storyline is amazing. I saw this in theaters and have been counting down to the day of the release. It's definately worth the money!
