Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The narrative may flag, but the doomsday atmosphere and George Liddlea(TM)s production design remain vivid until the final, blood-splattered reel. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Hawke gives his all here -- or maybe just half his all -- and it isn't quite enough: He's trying to be soulful, but he really just looks a little tired. The real delight is Willem Dafoe. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: For the lowbrow, the thrill is a level of fleshy explosiveness reminiscent of David Cronenberg's Scanners. No one dies quietly; he must either detonate like Hiroshima or burst into juicy red chunks of viscera. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Writer-directors Michael and Peter Spierig equip this unpretentious, low-budget, high-functioning shocker with some sharp satirical teeth, and Dafoe has a ball behind his Manson goatee. – Cliff Doerksen, Chicago Reader, Jun 24, 2010

Daybreakers fulfills your craving

Daybreakers looked like a promising film that would take the formulaic "vampire" story, and turn it on its head. Daybreakers doesn't look great, it is great. The performances are strong, the script is strong, and the scenery is amazing. It's also very captivating and keeps you on the edge of your seat. After watching the mediocrity known as "Twilight", it's refreshing to see a mature vampire flick. Also, for those wondering, this movie will sure to satisfy gore lovers. There is a reasonable amount of gore, and once the grotesqueness presents itself, it's a blood fest. Definitely not for the timid or weak stomached. I enjoyed this movie, but there are some minor nit-picks I have. Firstly, this movie could have been such a great horror film. The first half is so immersing and scary, that it would honestly make a great scare fest. We do get some frightening moments here and there, but Daybreakers is just a thriller. Secondly, I thought the style outweighed the substance. The movie is very effective, but it doesn't really go anywhere. Nevertheless, Daybreakers is a recommendation from me. Sure it's no "The Lost Boys", but miles better than "Twilight". A very good film that's worth your time and money.

Must-See

I'm totally into the whole Vampire Genre, unlike my father, who absolutely loves to mock the idea, and we went to see the movie. A MUST-SEE. My dad, who hates Vampies like this loved the movie. There was action for the guys, a little romance and heart-throb for the girls, and horror for everyone between. It kept you on the edge of your seat until the end. There's a new meaning in I Heart Edward now...

Mediocre at best. Rent it if you are extremely bored.

Ever just been sitting there and you see a naked woman run by? Too bad she's 50 years old. That's how one would feel after watching this film. This film is an incomplete work. It starts out well, a good storyline, a surprise plot twist, then nada. Horrible storytlling.
