Fresh: Likeluy divide critics and viewers, this is a simpler and less layered film than other works from Egoyan, who seems unable to infuse the pyschological thriller with his characteristic humor and irony.

very good
The acting in this movie was nothing short of terrific. Hoskins plays Hilditch beautifully; he slowly shiifts from a helpful stranger to something much darker. The changes are very subtle and very believable. He gives an incredibly chilling performance that won't be forgotten. Cassidy plays the naive Irish girl, Felicia. She doesn't have a lot of lines, because of this she had to use body language and facial expressions to get her point across. This would be very difficult for a young actress, fortunately she did so remarkably. Her performance along with Hoskins leaves a strong impression. They are not acting, it is beyond that, they are truely one with their character. Because I am an american I am accustomed to the typical Hollywood films. Felicia's Journey is in no sense a Hollywood film. This movie is much slower, taking time to develope the characters. It moves at a slow pace, every time you take two steps foreward you take one back. I mean this quite literally; throughout the movie there are flashbacks. I found this new style of film quite refreshing. All of these reasons and many more are why I love this movie. Unforunately, the only factor of the movie that dissappointed me was the "climax". Because I am an american, I suppose I expected a large climax or a big battle of good vs. evil. This does not quite happen. The "climax" is more... spiritual. It works well with the pace of the movie but I would have enjoyed the director to change the pace to throw the audience off a little bit. But the very end I found to be chilling and impressive, I walked away with very good feelings about the movie (just didn't get the satisfaction in the climax). Overall I highly recommend this film; the performances are spot on, the ideas are intriguing, and there are much deeper meanings in the film, if you look closely. Enjoy! :)
Envelopes the senses
Pretty, mysterious, dastardly, Lynch-y, atmospheric - a stark journey.
