Plot Summary
Lt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. Inside burning buildings, it's his natural instinct. In the cooling embers of his marriage, it's another story. After a decade of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that they are ready to move on without each other. Yet as they prepare to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's dad asks his son to try an experiment: The Love Dare. While hoping The Love Dare has nothing to do with his parents' newfound faith, Caleb commits to the challenge. But can he attempt to love his wife while avoiding God's love for him? Will he be able to demonstrate love over and over again to a person that's no longer receptive to his love? Or is this just another marriage destined to go up in smoke?

Fresh: This is a decent attempt to combine faith and storytelling that will certainly register with its target audience.
Rotten: You probably can't blame pastors moonlighting as moviemakers for wanting to pack their film with multiple messages, but the conversion subplot feels shoehorned into the more crucial marital doings.
Rotten: Unfortunately, the emphasis on what God wants has a way of overwhelming who Caleb and Catherine are as characters.
Rotten: With the production values of a straight-to-video cheapie and the script of a mediocre soap opera, Fireproof is good for just about one thing: dousing whatever flames might be left in your marriage.

From The Point Of View Of A Skeptical Ministry Coordinator...
While tempting to simply say this movie is 'awesome' or 'so great,' I want to give a more in-depth perspective on Fireproof. While it is an exceptional film, it can't help but be compared to other Christian films, which sometimes don't measure up to the Hollywood standard that America is used to seeing. With that said, the acting is pretty believable and the action sequences are emotionally gripping. The story is one that we know all too well but don't see on-screen very often—a husband who has lost interest in his wife and has found fulfillment in pornography and weekend hobbies; a wife who feels that she's not cared for by her husband seeks the attention of another male in her life. It's a common story throughout households in the world. Thankfully, this movie does give hope to the broken situation that this couple finds themselves in. While a 40-day challenge like "The Love Dare" sounds too good to be true, it most certainly can't hurt. Watch this movie with an open mind and heart, and then believe that broken lives and marriages really can be put back together.
Keeping the Faith and stayin' married
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It touched my life at just the right time...God's time. I was the girl/wife in the movie, and not until just 2 weeks ago did my heart finally soften toward my husband--which is when I put my wedding ring back on. After watching this very inspiring movie of truth, it has confirmed the importance of putting God first in a marriage and fighting to keeping the enemy out. I no longer want a divorce. I want to work through this and love my husband the way God would and pray through the rough and uncertain times. THANK YOU for this film. It will touch many lives and definately sends a very meaningful/true/touching message to those of us who feel that we have put forth our last effort and are finished. It is NEVER too late to apply the love of Christ and wait to see what HE does.
Great Movie!
I've been married for 15 years now. I can definitely identify with Kirk's character in this movie in the early years of our marriage. For a low budget movie I thought the plot and story were excellent. I truely enjoyed watching this movie it made me feel human again after seeing all the junk that's happening in the world today and all the garbage Hollywood puts out. It's refreshing to see an authentic Christian themed story that gets the Gospel out. I would like to see more movies like this one in the future.
