Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Lacking the wit to qualify as a sick joke, the ongoing saga of Hannibal Lecter has become the Grand Guignol equivalent of a shaggy-dog story. – Sam Adams, Los Angeles Times, Sep 20, 2007

Rotten: Hannibal Rising is basically a Steven Seagal vigilante movie with a hero who eats the people he kills. At least it's ecofriendly. – David Edelstein, New York Magazine, Jun 29, 2007

Rotten: Formerly masterful novelist Thomas Harris continues to pimp out the serial-killing cannibal he (and Anthony Hopkins) made famous. – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe, Feb 10, 2007

Rotten: I can't name an actor who could have made young Lecter as interesting as the older one, but Ulliel does not come close. – Jack Mathews, New York Daily News, Jul 15, 2007

Hopkins

Of course he is not in the movie you idiot.. This movie goes back to his childhood, ya ruhtard.. Why would you want him in it?? Would you want a 70 year old man portraying a teenager??

FINALLY!

This book/movie series is easily one of my favorites overall, and this is a beautifully done addition.

Why? BECAUSE THOMAS HARRIS WAS THE SCREEN WRITER!!!
In fact he was writing the book and the screen play simultaneously, which lends to interesting differences. I think the director did a very good job overall, both book and movie jump around in his memory timeline and at times can be a bit hard to keep track of if you're not paying attention.
This is a complex creation story. And its gonna tell you, so if you prefer Hannibal's past a mystery do not enter.

If you love Hannibal Lector and the story-line this is a great addition, and because of Harris' involvement they didn't completely futz up the ending like they did in Hannibal. Enjoy!
