Plot Summary
The captain of the East High basketball team and the key member of the academic club shock the student body by teaming to audition for the upcoming school musical in a Disney Channel Original Movie that's all about being yourself and following your dreams. Troy (Zac Efron) is best known as the player who keeps the East High basketball team on the scoreboard. Of course, life isn't always about athletics, though, and as Troy slam-dunks on the boards, beautiful and brainy Gabriella (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) is raising the reputation of East High as the key member of the school's successful academic team. Despite their outgoing natures, no one would ever peg Troy and Gabriella as theater types. When word gets out that this popular pair has secretly chosen to reach for the stars and try their luck on the stage, the students of East High are about to learn an important lesson in teamwork while gearing up for a musical performance that will have their audience dancing in the aisles.

My Sisters Love It
Well I am 15 and I personally do not like the Disney Channel, but my sisters are OBSESSED with this movie. I swear, I think I even know the words to a lot of the songs just because they play the movie so much on our tivo. Anyways, I would really recommend this for all those wanting to find a nice gift to give for your little sisters who have ipods or something like that. From what I hear from them, they love it. They are 13 and 7 by the way.
A must buy!
I must admit that I was wondering why most of my students have seen this for more than 10x. I finally got to watch it and I know why. It's great to know that it's one of the first movies to be offered in iTunes! I bought it right away.
You either love it or you hate it
As is quite obvious from the reviews, a lot of people love the movie and the soundtrack. As is quite obvious from the reviews, a lot of people hate the movie and the soundtrack. Personally, I liked the movie. Musicals are fun, and I'm a sucker for cute, cheesy romance. You're going to have to judge this one on your own. I'd say see the movie, you'll have a great time either way; either you'll love the movie, or you'll laugh your head off at the ridiculousness of it. Yeah, it's pretty obvious that the kids aren't singing, they're just lip-syncing. Yeah, it was a pretty cheesy movie overall. I mean, East High and West High? C'mon. People, it's a DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE. What exactly were you expecting? An Oscar-winner? No, people don't randomly burst out singing in the halls. But it's a MUSICAL. That is how musicals WORK, people. Were you constantly protesting the talking animals in "Ige Age" or "Madagascar" because "animals can't really talk"? Yeah, I didn't think so. When I sit down to watch a movie, I do it with the knowledge that the plot of the movie probably isn't going to be true to real life. And you know what? That's okay. If you want to see something about real life, go watch a documentary. But if you want to be amused by the singing antics of a group of high school kids, go watch High School Musical.
