Plot Summary
Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) delivers a superstar performance in this powerful story based on real events. Amid the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina, one coach attempts the impossible: create a winning basketball team using players from five of the hardest-hit high schools in the area. Featuring Isaiah Washington (Grey's Anatomy), Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Well done! More love for New Orleans!
I'm kind of a geek for movies that are inspirational true stories even when they are embellished a bit, and I am even worse when it comes to sports because I coach high school sports; however, this movie rates right up there with "Remember the Titans", "Miracle", and "Friday Night Lights" as one of my favorites. Forest Whitaker does a great job portraying the Head Coach, he emotionally connects with the character and brings intensity to the role. Isaiah Washington does a nice job as the assistant coach as well. I am not from New Orleans but have read some amazing stories about citizens of that city and their triumph over Katrina and this movie brings those stories home in a very real way. Well done!
