Plot Summary

Carmen and Wayne Colson were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But now they’ve seen too much and Armand “The Blackbird” Degas, a half Ojibway Indian, half French Canadian hit man, doesn’t like loose ends. So after witnessing a failed extortion attempt, an innocent couple is on the run, and even the Witness Protection Program doesn’t seem to be enough to keep The Blackbird and his partner Richie Nix off their trail. Killshot is the latest adaptation from Elmore Leonard, the master thriller writer who also gave us Out of Sight and Get Shorty. The film is being produced by Richard Gladstein (Finding Neverland, The Cider House Rules, The Bourne Identity), Executive Produced by Quentin Tarantino (Sin City, Kill Bill, Vol 1 and Vol 2, Pulp Fiction) and directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, Best Picture Oscar winner in 1998). Starring Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Under the Tuscan Sun), Mickey Rourke (Sin City, 9 1/2 Weeks), and Rosario Dawson (Rent, Sin City, Alexander).

Glad I read the book first

Like almost every Elmore Leonard book-turned-movie, Killshot was better in print. I'm glad I read the book first because I thought a few times watching the movie that I'd have been lost if I hadn't read the story first. The movie moved so fast it didn't feel like I had time to watch the plot unfold. It should have been another half-hour long. I wasn't disappointed because I've learned never to expect a movie to be as good as the book or to unfold exactly the same. Really the saving grace was Joseph Gordon-Levitt's performance as Richie Nix, which was surprisingly very good. I'd recommend it for rental, buy it's not worth owning.

Don't be fooled by the list of stars; this movie is a disaster!

To put it succinctly, I want my money back. Having just seen The Wrestler, I was eager to see what else the reborn Mickey Rourke had to offer. All things considered, he did ok. But the script and casting were all wrong. Mickey plays a Native American contract killer, named Armand "The Blackbird" Degas. Seriously? Mickey Rourke an Indian? And Blackbird? Could they be any more cliche? It does nothing for the story besides add one more rediculous distraction from the already weak plot. Then there is the kid from Angels in the Outfield who is trying to play some kind of "Natural Born Killer" character, but he falls way short. Imagine if the guys from Queer Eye were cast in Band of Brothers, and then you'd understand how unbelievable his performance of this character is. Lastly, there is Diane Lane and Thomas Jane who act out some pathetic soap opera sub-plot about their failed marriage, etc. Utlimately, this script is just a patchwork of played out storylines wrapped around a cast of names that sell movies. I am not a critic of any type, and until now I have never written a review for anything on iTunes. But I felt so ripped off by this movie that I was compelled to warn others not to be duped by the cast of stars. Watch your kids play cops and robbers and you'll see more creativity, be less insulted, and stay $4 richer.

Not Bad

Good rental. Good performance by Rourke. Entertaining. To echo some of what I've heard about this, it was good not great. It starts fast, but drags a bit at the end. Not the best I've seen, but definitely worthy of a Saturday night at home with nothing better on the agenda.
