Plot Summary
A bittersweet retrospective account of author J. R. Ackerley's 16-year relationship with his adopted dog, Tulip. The distinguished British man of letters, Ackerley hardly thought of himself as a dog lover when he adopted Tulip. To his surprise, she turned out to be the love of his life, and in vivid and sometimes startling detail, he reveals Tulip's sassy behavior and Ackerley's own efforts to ensure perfect happiness for her. A profound and subtle mediation on the strangeness that lies at the heart of all relationships, My Dog Tulip was written, directed and animated by award-winning filmmakers Paul and Sandra Fierlinger and is the first animated feature ever to be entirely hand drawn and painted utilizing paperless computer technology.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: My Dog Tulip is as disconcerting and unusual a piece of animation as the 1956 memoir that inspired it, and that is saying a lot.
Fresh: A marvelous animated feature, full of quiet joy, honest sorrow, wisdom and a wealth of clinical detail both excremental and reproductive, all rendered in a charming style approximating the dog drawings of James Thurber.
Fresh: Words of wisdom keep popping up in My Dog Tulip with gratifying regularity. They're more likely to gratify dog lovers than anyone else, but that's a large group to which I belong...
Fresh: It's hard not to feel a certain affection for a tale that is so unapologetic about just that: affection.
