Plot Summary
This indie film poses the question: What happens to someone's life when they become famous through a fictionalized account? Noah Buschel's intelligent and unusual new biopic focuses on the life of Neal Cassady, one of the central figures of the Beat Generation. Chronicled by greats like Allen Ginsberg and Hunter S. Thompson, Cassady became an antihero for a new age. But, it was as Dean Moriarty, the lead character in Jack Kerouac's historic On the Road, that he was immortalized. Later in life Cassady hopes to settle into an ordinary family life, but the pressure from Beat fans to act like Moriarty haunts him. Shot gorgeously with a searing dreamy tone that mirrors the writing of the generation, "Neal Cassady" is the story of a man trying to live down his own legend. Before it kills him. An IFC release.

An out and out Killer Movie
For all the pieces of crap out there, it is hard to really think you will be getting anything but. But here we are ladies and gentle men, a film that delivers both an edge you can slice eggs with, and deep emotional sensibility you can swim around in for a least a week. Seeing this film was a highlight, and highlights are hard to come by in these depression times. A wise man once said, “Great things are not accomplished by those who yield to trends and fads and popular opinion.” And the man that said this is in this Movie.
Totally Original Art Film
Not sure why I had never heard of this film, but just rented it and what a little gem. It's not often you see true auteur films anymore. Most so called indies feel like every other studio film, but on lesser budget. This movie really feels different. I thought it would be good for a laugh, but it honors the Beats by using a combination of Hollywood, pulp, and poetry styles. It is like a
Robert Mitchum movie directed by Robert Frank.
The Pathos Of Doomed Heroes
Noah Buschel really gets the true underlying theme that drove all of these real life characters. Buschel's writing gives voice that reflects both the myth and common frailty that these people represent.
