Plot Summary
In the fall of 2005, Neil Young returned to the sound and style of his iconic 1972 album Harvest with Prairie Wind, a set of ten songs which look to America's past and future accompanied by sweet but rough-hewn country-rock. The album was written and recorded after Young was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm, and shortly before he went into the hospital for surgery for the condition, Young played a pair of special concerts at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, the original home of the Grand Ole Opry, where he performed the Prairie Wind album in full along with a set of old favorites. Filmmaker Jonathan Demme was on hand to film the shows, and Neil Young: Heart of Gold was culled from the best moments of those two concerts, as well as interviews in which Young talks about his life and music. Emmylou Harris appears as a guest vocalist, and Young's band includes long time accompanists Ben Keith on pedal steel, pianist Spooner Oldham and Pegi Young (Neil's wife) on acoustic guitar and backing vocals. By the way, Neil Young enjoyed a full recovery after his surgery.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Heart of Gold is the work of an egalitarian lover of music. Demme uses the camera as a divining rod, pointing at the man with the guitar.
Fresh: The best moments in the film are when Ellen Kuras's camera just sits there taking in the whole stage, the whole gorgeous ecosystem.
Fresh: Heart of Gold -- filmed in much the same manner [as Stop Making Sense], with pristine sound and a notable lack of audience shots -- is a deeper and infinitely more touching piece of work.
Fresh: It's movie and music bliss.

If I had to choose a hero in this world - I would choose good ole Neil! The guy amazes me! Thanks for helping me learn to play the guitar Neil! Keep Going!
JUST LIKE A FINE WINE. NEIL, YOU ARE THE BEST!
I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EARS. TO SEE ALL THOSE GUESTS, OLD FRIENDS, PLAYING AND SINGING WITH NEIL. HIS VOICE IS STILL GREAT. I DID NOT LIKE SOME OF THE OLD ELECTRIC ALBUMS HE DID, AND I AM GLAD HE IS BACK TO HIS ROOTS. I BELIEVE HE SOUNDS BETTER NOW THAN EVER. I HOPE YOU TOUR BUDDY! I WILL BE THERE. LETS CALL IT "THE OL FART TOUR" US 50-60 YEAR OLDS WILL FILL THE CONCERT HALL WITH DEPENDS AND ALL. ( JUST HAVE IT BEFORE 3PM SO I CAN GET TO BED BY PM LOL) ON A SERIOUS NOTE. GOD SPEED ON YOUR RECOVERY. I WISH YOU CONTINUED SUCCESS. HOW ABOUT THAT BAND! A MUST HAVE MOVIE.
