Plot Summary
Over black, we hear mysterious voices singing a wordless lament. Then a lone, spotlighted puppet (bearing more than a passing resemblance to Kermit the Frog) raises a trumpet to his lips, playing a klezmer-like solo. A man has died. But, though we know this has happened, the trumpeter and his friends don’t realize that their creator has passed away. Which leads to some very strange events. By turns wistful and wacky, this beautifully made computer animation is one long production number, filling the screen with pure imagination (and hundreds of puppets). While it may be seen as a tribute to Muppets creator Jim Henson, the film’s message of loss, perseverance, and the joy of creation goes beyond any single interpretation. A treat for all ages. “A sublime black-and-white masterpiece, in which the depth and breadth of the characters drives the comedy and tragedy.” – Animation World Magazine
