Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The mushy pretensions of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid suggest either that [Peckinpah] has begun to take talk about his genius too seriously (it can happen to the best) or that he has fallen in with bad company. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: A richer, more rewarding experience. – Douglas Pratt, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: It's one of the great tragic true stories of the old wild West, the story of two outlaw friends ending up enemies as one turns over and becomes a lawman - expressly for the purpose of hunting down his friend. – Andrew L. Urban, Urban Cinefile, Jun 24, 2010

Altered Soundtracks are an Outrage

That this movie can be released and billed as being the same movie that was released in 1973 is an outrage. Even though most people think Guns and Roses wrote "Knockin' on Heavens Door", they're wrong. Bob Dylan wrote it, and it originally played over the final scenes of this movie, the part where Pat Garrett reluctantly kills Billy, and that song is GONE from the soundtrack on this "version" of the film. THAT, my friends, is an outrage.

"Momma; Put My Guns In The Ground!"

.."I Can't Shoot Them Anymore!"..What an Captivating Combination: Coburn; Dylan; Kristofferson & Peckinpaw!-"Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid" is a Modernist; Moralistic and Macho version of what may have happened to the legendary William Bonney!-No one here is purely Good or Evil; Everyone is fighting for their own Survival; Alliances are Temporary and Dangerous; Just like Life must have been in the last days of "The Wild; Wild West!"-{The Soundtrack; All composed by Bob (Alias) Dylan; Accentuates the Action & The Scenery perfectly!}-Catch this Western Classic Again!...by Grimmbo.

Missing Dylan

This is the "director's cut," which means you don't get "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." What was Sam Peckinpaugh thinking. I love the movie but that really makes it an unfortunate event.
