Plot Summary
Trouble-prone teen Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of school – but that's the least of his problems. The gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters seem to have walked out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology texts and into his life – and they're not happy. Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now, Percy and his friends must return Zeus' stolen property and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Although the standard allegorical bases for mythical-quest movies are dutifully covered, the obvious similarity of Percy Jackson to the Harry Potter movies inevitably makes it feel somewhat secondhand.
Rotten: Has all the CGI sorcery of a Harry Potter pic, but none of the magic.
Fresh: You don't even have to be familiar with the first book in Rick Riordan's popular fantasy series to enjoy Chris Columbus' energetic adaptation.
Fresh: Director Chris Columbus has brought together the modern and mythical spheres with sharp pacing and a nifty sense of fun that atone for the film's dippier moments. It's his most enjoyable effort since Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Books Are Better
I was so looking forward to seeing this amazing series-opener come to life on the big screen. But unfortunately, I was rather disappointed. Some scenes were very good--- loved the Underworld and Mt. Olympus (EXTERIORS; interiors of the castles were some of the cheesiest sets they had)--- while others simply didn't live up.
Persephone's Pearls were featured in a TINY sliver of the book, not the whole plot. And Annabeth is always referred to as BLOND in the books. Not brunette.
Also, they must not want to have a sequel, because they failed to indroduce--- let alone MENTION--- key characters, like Clarisse. I was also looking forward to seeing their rendition of the cabins. The books describe them as intricate, detailed structures. Not colorless tents. And they did not ONCE metion Thalia, or her Pine Tree.
The Lotus Hotel & Casino was okay. But there were no little "Lotus Flowers" in the book. I know I keep refrencing to the book, but is one of those Series that needs to be done justice at the movies, too.
And something was up with Chiron. The actor's acting was fine, but the body was out of proportion BIG TIME.
LOVED IT!
OK, somy mom got me the first book and Ive been hooked on the series since. I went to see the movie when it first came out. I loved it! Im a total fantasy fiction geek so this kind of movie was perfect for me. The idea of there being a secret camp for people who are the children of the gods is so cool. Plus, the plot of the movie followed the book really well but its easy to understand the movie even if you havent read it. Kids will love this movie and I think their parents might too. Lots of action, a really good moral, and a little bit of a romance. I dont know if theyre making Sea of Monsters, but I really hope so. I might just go see it on opening night!
Terrible movie
Worst movie ever!!!! Doesn't follow story line at all.
