Plot Summary
Get ready to tango with RANGO, a winner with critics and audiences that’s "like nothing you’ve ever seen before" (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone). Johnny Depp is spectacular as Rango, a kooky pet chameleon who gets tossed into a wild and raucous town in desperate need of a hero. Refreshingly original with eye-popping animation, RANGO is "loads of fun and genuinely funny" (Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times).

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A CGI western comedy populated by desert critters, Rango gives the film year a belated jump start with a passel of movie-wise fun and a knockout animation style.
Fresh: Though young children may enjoy it, the film is built for viewers of any age with a taste for joyful anarchy.
Fresh: The first animated film from ILM is also the first memorable motion picture of 2011.
Fresh: Yes, [there are] enough nods to other sources to make Rango a bobblehead. But the movie, and much of John Logan's writing, is still pretty durn clever.

Great movie but not for everyone
Rango is like many "kids" movies that have surfaced lately, in that kids and adults can watch it and be entertained; but not for the same reasons. Movies like Toy Story 3, WALL-E, and Rango have a surface veiwing for children, and a complex, sometimes dark, underlying story for adults. It is the complicated underlying story which accounts for so many of the negitive comments listed about Rango. Some parents are offended to see adult ideas in a kid's movie, and some parents enjoy it. To those that are offended, I wonder if they have ever considered "classic" kid's stories, such as Snow White, Bambi, and Sleeping Beauty. A review of these classics will demonstrate, underlying plots is nothing new for kid's films. For me, I consider a film enjoyed by both children and adults to be a mark of perfection.
Rango is a great film. Full-length animation has given us romance films, action films, spy films, pirate films, dramas, and even kung-fu films. However, nobody has tapped the western since Bugs Bunny. As a fan of westerns, and the father of a 5-year old cowboy, I had to see Rango on the opening day. Rango is done in true western style, and is a lot of fun. If you don't enjoy this film, try Spy Hampsters; it might be more your speed.
A MOVIE LIKE NO OTHER!
What is there to say about "Rango"? That it boasts a stellar ensemble of voice actors, dazzles with fantastic, almost lifelike visuals, and that it takes the spaghetti western genre to a whole new level? Well, yeah...in fact, that's pretty much a perfect summarization of what's so spectacular about this brilliant animated movie. Before seeing "Rango" at the theatre, I honestly thought I would be stepping into yet another generic kiddie-flick that relied on immature humor to get its laughs across. Boy, was I ever wrong! What I got instead was a smart, adventurous romp that had the depth and emotion of a Pixar film, as well as the hilarity and ingenuity of a Dreamworks Animation production. But what really surprised me about this film wasn't the fact that the story was so refreshingly original, but that there was an important message buried beneath it that everyone can and should take to heart. Overall, "Rango" is a gratifying and breathtaking animated feature the whole family will love!
Rango
Of all of the animated movies i have seen (I'm kind of obsessed) Rango, for me, ranks up there with those smart pieces of genius you don't see very often. It has laughs, and a good plot, plus an amazing preformance from Johnny Dep Helps to seal the deal. Of all of the animated movies I've seen, this ranks right up there with Wall-e, Spirited Away, and Shrek. 5/5
