Rotten: Attempts to pay homage to the '80s oeuvre of filmmaker John Hughes, but its singular lack of emotional logic, charm and humor bring to mind a couple of hours in detention instead.

There's more to this film on a 2nd viewing and it reminds me of a friend retelling me some story about high school. Nothing really unusual or really funny happens but I'm interested in my friend anyway.
When Shasta first appears on the screen, if this was the movie Pleasantville, the film print would go from black & white to color each time Shasta appears.
Shasta does not appear often enough!
If the movie had pivoted around her character, I think we would have benefited from her natural, comedic charm and she'd have more room to express her seduction.
The same might even apply to Winona Ryder's character which even though she's the ultimate object of affection, deserved more screen time.
