Plot Summary

The year is 2018. An army of Terminators roams the post-apocalyptic landscape, killing or collecting humans. But small groups of survivors have organized into a Resistance, hiding in underground bunkers and striking when they can. Controlling the Terminators is the artificial intelligence network Skynet, which became self-aware 14 years earlier and, in the blink of an eye, turned on its creators, unleashing nuclear annihilation on an unsuspecting world. The world is on the brink of the future that John Connor (Christian Bale) has been warned about all his life. But something totally new has shaken his belief that humanity stands a chance of winning this war: the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger from the past. Connor must decide whether Marcus can be trusted. But as Skynet adapts new strategies to end the Resistance forever, Connor and Marcus must find common ground to take a stand against the onslaught--to infiltrate Skynet and meet the enemy head-on.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: It brings me very little joy to report that this version of the popular Terminator franchise is silly, obtuse, and pointless. – Laremy Legel, Film.com, Oct 31, 2011

Rotten: Listen, come over to my place this weekend; we'll rewatch Terminator 1 and 2, we'll listen to 'You Could Be Mine' by Guns N Roses, we can even discuss Edward Furlong's 'career'. And let's just pretend Terminator Salvation never happened. – Simon Miraudo, Quickflix, Apr 4, 2011

Rotten: It's a catastrophically bad movie whose aggressive dullness and dumbness can best be reproduced by picking up a brick and slamming it against one's forehead for two hours. – Sukhdev Sandhu, Daily Telegraph, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: I think it is really the most boring performance from Christian Bale in a long time. – Margaret Pomeranz, At the Movies (Australia), Jun 24, 2010

An honest review.

Okay, first of all the storyline wasn't as good as T2 Judgement Day but it's decent enough non the less. Second, the acting, Christian Bale wasn't the best John Conner, but he did a fairly good job and you get the idea of what he's trying to accomplish. The rest of the cast in my opinion did an excellent job in their roles, but only good for an action film. Thirdly, the visuals and action were very realistic and well corordinated, very undissapointing. And last but probably biggest subject, Arnold Schwarzenegger not starring in the movie. Honesty, even without him, the movie all in all is still very good and being a die-hard Terminator fan, I recomend it to old and new fans of the series.

...From a Fan

As a fan following the Terminator series I was really excited to see what Christian Bale would do with John Connor and see where the storyline would take us this time around after such a long wait.
...what I got was a movie starring a guy who looks and acts like the son of Van Dam, CGI that looked unfinished in many shots, a Jon Connor that gets kicked out of the resistance (I thought he WAS/lead the resistance), and terminator fight scenes that end just as fast as they start (despite the fact that it took one whole film in the past just to kill one Terminator).
The storyline itself is descent but gets lost in the rubble of terrible scenes and bad acting. John Connors wife, who was a big part in the 3rd film, has about two lines in this one. And not to mention that Common (the rapper) is a main character in this movie...and he brings with him his hat that he wears on his album covers....
The storyline takes us nowhere and resolves nothing. The action scenes are as exciting as a Disney Channel movie, and the movie is one that i've been trying to forget exists because I didn't want to see the day when someone would completely sabotage the Terminator franchise.

The best part of the movie was the beginning credits when the Terminator Theme Song played and got you pumped to see a new Terminator film.....then the second best part was when the end credits played because you could finally leave the theater.

On a side note, the company that owns the rights to the Terminator franchise just announced that it's bankrupt. It needs money so bad that it's selling the rights to the highest bidder...I'm telling the truth too, you can Google it.
This movie ruined the franchise.
I don't recommend it at all.

wait for the directors cut

I loved this movie. it wasnt as good as the first two but still a good movie to watch. the only thing i wish they did was kept its rated r counterpart. this version is good and all but what i read on the internet, the rated r version is so much better. please itunes make the directors cut version able to be preordered
