Plot Summary

The Dakota Territories 1879. A handful of brave pioneers maintain isolated settlements in the badlands beyond civilization. Irish immigrant Fergus Coffey is near to winning the hand of his beloved Maryanne when she is suddenly taken from him, her family brutally abducted in a nighttime attack on their homestead. Suspicion falls immediately on hostile Indians. Experienced Indian fighters Will Parcher and John Clay form a posse and set out to rescue the kidnapped settlers. But as men vanish in the night, and horrific evidence accumulates with the dead and dying, the group discovers that their prey is far more terrifying than anything human, and their prospects are far more terrible than death.

Rotten: The pacing is too pokey by half, and the payoff is a wrenching disappointment. – John Anderson, Variety, Jun 24, 2010

Not too bad, cool monsters...

Is this a western or a horror film? ...It's a horror film, that happens to take place in the old west. Pretty much everything is well done, from the writing to the acting, to the score, to the costumes and period designs. The monsters were a really cool design, unique looking, and have an interesting M.O. The ending felt a bit flimsy to me, like it needed more of a climax, but all in all, it was enjoyable. Just the kind of movie that could spawn many sequels of gradually lessening quality. Check it out, it 'aint half bad. I'm right, and anyone who disagrees with me is wrong. All the beast -- Jesse

Sucky Ending

Man I really got into this movie but the end just sucked big time. Totally a let down man.

exqueeeeseak, but BLOOD RED EARTH was better

Not western at all, not scary enough to be horror, it’s a misfit. You need a temperament to enjoy this, in the wrong frame of mind it will come across as slow. Analyze this wile watching and your dampening potential pleasure. Go with it, and don’t expect to be spoon-fead engagement in it. This is creepy and interesting. Requires an active viewing, you’ll get outa it what you put into it. Believe in the toothfary, put yourself in the frame, and nurture your imagination. They show the monsters too soon and frequently for my tastes. Despite the trash talking, im telling ya its good. Not something so awesome id get a tattoo of it, but id recommend it. NOT WATCHED it yet but plan to? Look into “blood red earth” a short prequel to the burrowers. Watch that first, then watch this. Id give that *****. (sorrz about spelling errerz)
