Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Watching The Children is like listening to babies cry. Unsettling and exasperating, you pray for it to stop. – Matt Glasby, Film4, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: The fundamentally disturbing and creepy aspects about such random and unpredictable child-centric mayhem are always present, no matter how ludicrously intense and darkly humorous things get. – Phelim O'Neill, Guardian [UK], Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: This efficient British chiller ticks the right boxes. – David Gritten, Daily Telegraph, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The grown-ups, rather hysterically, blame each others' parenting skills. The plot promptly disintegrates into a gory struggle for credibility against appalling odds. – James Christopher, Times [UK], Jun 24, 2010

So disturbing!!!

This is one of the most frightening and disturbing movies I have ever seen. Rent it, you will not be disapointed. I cannot believe this movie is not more popular.

A solid title for horror fans

This is a very gripping film. Most of the questions that get formed eventually get answered through the course of the film. Particularly some of the forest shots.
My favorite part about 'The Children' isn't how the villains play off trust, but the use of foreshadowing. We are led, misled, and some visceral shots that seem are important end up being not so. This was a brilliant tactic that kept the film from beocoming too predicable.
This is by far the director's best work and is a shame it isn't floating around the top 10 of iTunes 'Horror', where it deserves to be. It isn't a gorefest, but has its share of violence and the terror ends up being so much more gripping than films in that genre such as 'Hatchet' and 'Laid 2 Rest'. As an avid horror fan this is a must watch, and you may find a jolt that is off the beaten path.
There are really only two characters I developed any type of emotion for and their sexual chemistry played great. I felt it was kind of anti-climatic how the film "took off", but Tom Shankland drops all the signs to let you know around 25-30 minutes into it that it is "go time".
Give it a go, this is a gripping tale that has me writing one of my first reviews.

Amazing!

I absolutely love this movie! No, it isn't scary, but it is a very good and suspenseful movie. The acting and effects are awesome!
