Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: As a whole, the movie, whose title dimly evokes "They Were Expendable," a 1945 John Ford combat picture starring John Wayne and Robert Montgomery, might more aptly be described as Bad Kurosawa, Bad Peckinpah or Bad Leone. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Aug 13, 2010

Rotten: It's not the age of the actors that makes The Expendables expendable. It's the stale storytelling. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Aug 13, 2010

Rotten: Rather than reviving the actors' 80s heyday, The Expendables only demonstrates how much action films have changed in recent years. – Michael Joshua Rowin, Salon.com, Aug 13, 2010

Rotten: The brain-dead male equivalent of Sex and the City 2. – Lou Lumenick, New York Post, Aug 13, 2010

Pure action and testosterone

Ok, if you are going to see this for the story thinking something oscar caliber for storytelling and writing, then you're seeing the wrong movie. If you want some incredible action by the best in the business and plenty of action hero fan service with a heaping helping of explicit violence, then The Expendables is for you. Heck it's worth a rent simply due to having Sly, Arnie and Bruno on screen at the same time.

Simply put, that's the bottom line.

Suckiness at it's finest!

the script sucked, the dialogue sucked, the acting sucked, the plot sucked AND is cheesy nonsense, testosterone laden, macho, chauvinistic and sexist. AND..... I loved it. Just what i needed. Brain dead fun. If you have zero expectations then you will probably have as much fun as i did watching this train wreck unfold. LONG LIVE Stallone. LONG LIVE Lungren. LONG LIVE Li. LONG LIVE Stratham.

Bad @SS movie

Definitely worth watching. Don't just take the bad reviews words for it. If you're not sure it's at least definitely worth renting first. Personally, I saw it in the movies and I plan on purchasing the day that it comes out to watch again & share with friends and father. Great movie that brings you back. Love the actor combinations.
