Plot Summary

New York cab driver Korben Dallas didn't mean to be a hero, but he just picked up the kind of fare that only comes along every five thousand years: A perfect beauty, a perfect being, a perfect weapon. Now, together, they must save the world. Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and Gary Oldman star in acclaimed director Luc Besson's outrageous sci-fi adventure, an extravagantly styled tale of good against evil set in an unbelievable twenty-third century world.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Mr. Besson directs with ceaseless flamboyance and with an obvious enthusiasm for his film's comic book conceits. But the tone of The Fifth Element is often terribly shrill, especially when attention shifts to grating minor characters. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Sep 16, 2009

Fresh: There's no doubt about it, when it comes to saving the world, Bruce Willis is your man. He does it with smarts and style, humor and courage. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Sep 16, 2009

Fresh: The Fifth Element has to be the most creative visualization since Tim Burton's first Batman in 1989. On top of that, it's a whole lot of fun. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: One of the great goofy movies -- a film so preposterous I wasn't surprised to discover it was written by a teenage boy. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Easily One Of The Best

One of the best sci-fi movies in my mind. This movie never gets old to watch no matter how many times I see it.

A must!!!!

While this may not be the best movie of all time on the charts of the business at large, a viewer's-eye-view is always more trusworthy. This movie is arguably the best film of Luc Besson's career. I don't say this as a degredation to his other films, but none of his other films have such a rich and convincing cast. There are too many great names to go on about. Classical, comedic, and broad. And the image of this movie is a convincing futuristic world that is parallel to any other science fiction on the market. The seperating factor of this movie is that is has appeal to almost any viewer, focussing on life within that world as apposed to a dry sifting of text-book life in a distant future. It has action, science fiction, fantasy, romance, and the natural and ever-present comedy pulls it together in a real and wonderful way. Altogether, this film is a wonderful peice that, while it has it's flaws, will pull you in and keep you there until the credits.

TIMELESS...

this movie was shot MORE THAN 11 years ago and still LOOKS good and BETTER than the films coming out today! REFRESHING...! this is MORE than a rental... IT'S A KEEPER!
