Plot Summary

Sensual vampire story stars rock legend David Bowie ("The Man Who Fell to Earth," "The Last Temptation of Christ") as an ailing centuries-old vampire whose fanged-lover, Catherine Deneuve ("Indochine," "Repulsion," "Belle de Jour"), seeks a new partner and seduces a mortal medical researcher (Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon -- "Dead Man Walking," "Stepmom," "The Client"). Directed by block-buster helmer Tony Scott ("Top Gun," "Crimson Tide," "Enemy of the State"). With Dan Hedaya ("Clueless," "The First Wives' Club," "Marvin's Room") and a cameo by Willem Dafoe ("The English Patient," "Platoon," "The Last Temptation of Christ").

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The movie reeks with chic, but never, for one minute, takes itself too seriously, nor does it ever slop over into camp. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Nov 18, 2008

Fresh: In his feature debut, director Tony Scott, brother of Ridley, exhibits the same penchant for eleborate art direction, minimal, humorless dialog and shooting in smoky rooms. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: The Hunger is an agonizingly bad vampire movie, circling around an exquisitely effective sex scene. Sorry, but that's the way it is, and your reporter has to be honest. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: The obsessive conjunction of lesbian sex and flowing blood suggests a deep-seated misogyny, but neither this nor any other theme is registered with enough clarity to offend. – Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader, Jun 24, 2010

Romance and Horror

Although this is a vampire flick, I've always considered more of a twisted romance film. Very posessive, very cannibalistic, its beautiful!!

High Art Vampires!

No, they don't have fangs. Yes, they can go out in daylight. So what?
This movie took me by surprise. I tend to like Vamp flicks and this one is no exception. David Bowie is great. Susan Sarandon, amazing... and Catherine Deneuve is stellar! It's not for 'Twilight' fans. It fits right up there with "Interview With the Vampire" for me.

Not a lot of dialogue, but plenty of stark imagery. Very erotic "love/sex" scenes without being explicit.
Get this flick before Hollywood bastardizes it for the 'Twilight' generation with the 'remake' that is planned.

And it's NOT horror... it is a visual thriller for sure.

Great visual thriler

This is a poem of images, you won't forget Susan Sarandon and Catherine Denueve beuties also de music adapted for this film is gorgius, you will love it, don't miss it.
