Plot Summary

Academy Award® nominee Edward Norton stars as scientist Bruce Banner, a man who has been living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote to the unbridled force of rage within him: the Hulk. But when the military masterminds who dream of exploiting his powers force him back to civilization, he finds himself coming face to face with his most formidable foe: the Abomination – a nightmarish beast of pure aggression whose powers match the Hulk’s own! Also starring Liv Tyler, Oscar® nominee Tim Roth, and Oscar® winner William Hurt, The Incredible Hulk is “steeped in action and spectacular special effects” (Claudia Puig, USA TODAY) and delivers a mind-blowing final showdown that can only be summed up with one word...INCREDIBLE!

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The sheer craft directors such as Leterrier lavish on them is awesome to me. I can't imagine how they orchestrate all the little pieces of film they require to build their big set pieces... [But] Why do they bother? – Richard Schickel, TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: In close-up the Hulk is more cartoonish than scary, but when he's ripping armed vehicles to shreds? Kewl. – Amy Biancolli, Houston Chronicle, Dec 16, 2008

Fresh: Broad, loud, straight-ahead and raucous, The Incredible Hulk may not be the smoothest or smartest movie ever made, but it sure captures the spirit of its giant green protagonist. – Tom Long, Detroit News, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: It won't change your life but you'll walk away smiling. – Laremy Legel, Film.com, Jul 16, 2010

Please bear in mind that "helpful" does not mean that I agree with you; it means that the review contains information that helps those who have not seen the film decide whether they do or do not want to see it, or expands the knowledge or insight for those who have. enjoy. I'm not going to lie; THE INCREDIBLE HULK is a pretty incredible film visually. Yes, we do get to see plenty of the fella' and I must admit, he's in pretty darn good shape. When he first appeared in broad daylight he did look pretty digital. However, I either got used to it, or they touched up their effects. Actually, some of the best Hulk scenes I thought were when we got a close up view of him. At those moments The Hulk almost seemed more than a giant, metal chucking monster; you could almost feel that Bruce Banner was in there somewhere. Of course, that's what much of the story revolves around: whether he can destroy it, and whether he should. Bruce is determined to get rid of the Not-So-Jolly-Green Giant once and for all and devotes the majority of the film searching for a "cure." Edward Norton makes an excellent Bruce Banner and pulls off the character perfectly. In fact, almost the entire cast was perfect in their individual roles. General Ross, Blonsky, even Betty's underused boyfriend (who I wish we saw more of). Liv Tyler was not believable as a scientist/docter (whatever she is), but that doesn't mean she doesn't do a great acting job. As a character and Bruce's girlfriend, she does her standard fine job. Also, Mr. Blue (Bruce's cure hunter) turns out to be way over acted, and the character seemed more of a stereotype than a real person. The story kept me engaged and was held up well. We feel Bruce's need for a cure and cheer him on as he flees from the General, who wants to extract the "Hulk secret" from Bruce to use it as a weapon. Of course, there is plenty of action. Although we've all seen this kind of stuff before (tanks, and city blocks being destroyed by a couple of CGI monsters), it somehow seemed somewhat fresh this time around. Perhaps the character interaction and dramatic plots integrated into the action made it more interesting. My main complaint is the film's ending. Too many plots are left open; too many questions are left unanswered; too many characters' fates are left unknown. If they were leaving an opening for a sequel, then I could understand; but all it seems to lead to is the upcoming avenger's film. However, that doesn't ruin the fun ride. As a fun superhero/monster movie, THE INCREDIBLE HULK delivers well, just don't expect any life changing morals. CONTENT: Some minor swearing and profanity; Much destruction and mayham, including soldier and civillian casualties; some flinch-inducing moments involving needles extracting large amounts of blood and a large needle being injected into a man's spine (we hear the impact); a short scene with partial non-sexual nudity (Bruce is in the shower and we briefly see a full side view of him curled of on the floor, nothing graphic); a short scene of sensuality (no nudity, it's a bedroom scene that is stopped abruptly because Bruce doesn't want his heart rate to climd too high). WHO: Older Teens and up. (For more Superhero and Sci-Fi movie reviews like this one just click on my username below the review title)
