Plot Summary
After the death of his father King George V (Michael Gambon of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE) and the scandalous abdication of King Edward VIII (Guy Pearce of MEMENTO), Bertie (Academy-Award®-winner Colin Firth) who has suffered from a debilitating speech impediment all his life, is suddenly crowned King George VI of England. With his country on the brink of war and in desperate need of a leader, his wife, Elizabeth (Golden-Globe®-nominee Helena Bonham Carter), the future Queen Mother, arranges for her husband to see an eccentric speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Academy-Award®-winner Geoffrey Rush). After a rough start, the two delve into an unorthodox course of treatment and eventually form an unbreakable bond. With the support of Logue, his family, his government and Winston Churchill (Timothy Spall of SWEENEY TODD), the King will overcome his stammer and deliver a radio-address that inspires his people and unites them in battle. Winner of four Oscars® including "Best Picture" and "Best Actor," The King's Speech is based on the true story of King George VI's quest to find his voice.

One of the best movies I have ever seen in my life
I rarely say that a movie is one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen in my existence, but I can definitely say that this is one of those moments. I don't think I've cried this much in years watching a movie and was a little embarassed to have people see my splotchy face with tear streaks all over it when I came out of the theater. This is just one of those rare moments in Hollywood history where I can say, "I was so glad I was alive and was able to be there when 'The King's Speech' came out." It's just that incredible.
This movie deserved all those Oscars this year and I was incredibly moved by this film. This is definitely a must-see movie.
You'll be speechless!
"The King's Speech" was the most amazing film of 2010! While it only won four of it's twelve Oscar nominations, they were the most important awards of the show, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture. Tom Hooper, the director, should be very pleased with himself, for this was not only his first win, but first nomination.
He used an excellent screenplay by David Seidler, filled with romance, comedy, drama, and even nail-biting suspence(not in the sense you would think), and combined it with masterful acting by Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, and Helena Bonham Carter, to make one of the greatest films of all time.
I think what gave this the advantage over "The Social Network" was that while "Network" was a very great, well-done film, it didn't have any heroes to root for, while "The King's Speech" had plenty of those. I myself believe that this film will stand the test of time much longer than the "The Social Network", but both movies are still very good.
Overall, "The King's Speech" is without question the best film of 2010, and I can't wait to see what Tom Hooper has in store for us in the future. Two Thumbs Way, WAY UP!

If you watch it first, you will understand why this movie won the oscar for best picture
This is the best movie of the year by far! Colin Firth is the best he has ever been, Helena Bohnam Carter is fantastic, and Gefoffrey Rush is perfect! Tom Hooper is an amazing director and they all were major contributions to the best movie of the year 2010!
