Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: An aggressively eye-popping horror film!
Rotten: Tries to have it both ways, sending up the adventure genre for laughs while also going for some mild shocks, but the sand slips through its fingers on both counts.
Rotten: A hyperactive hodgepodge of monumental proportions!
Fresh: There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it.

Extremely Fun Adventure...
I was really surprised with The Mummy when I saw it at the age of 9. I was expecting complete horror where I'd have to close my eyes every second, but instead, it's a much less violent Indiana Jones adventure-type film, with lots of laughs. The acting is all well done, no one I can say was bad. The special-effects are okay, though some scenes appear more "fake" than others. The action... the film is full of it, and it's some thrilling stuff too. Overall, The Mummy is a fun adventure film that I was obssessed with for a couple years -- even so I saw the 1932 original with Karloff after seeing this one. Buy/rent this film.
Best Movie Ever
This is one of the best movies ever made. It doesn't get much better than Branden Fraiser battling a 3,000 year old mummy. By far my favorite movie of all time. A MUST SEE!
HECK YEAH!
I love this movie. I love love love this movie. It's pretty much one of the best movies in the entire universe. Yeah, the special effects aren't STELLAR (Transfomers setting the bar here), but then again, it probably was in '99, so cut it some slack. A lot of people may think I'm insane for saying this, but Brendan Fraser's character (Rick O'Connell was my favorite (keep in mind, this movie was my introduction to that particular actor, so George of the Jungle didn't ruin him for me). He's so sarcastic! Example: Evy: Umm...by the way...why did you kiss me? Rick: *laughs* I was about to be hanged, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Evy: Ohh! *storms off* Rick: What? What'd I say? I really don't think there was a right answer to that question. If you like horror, action, dead guys, or any combination of the above, watch this movie. And watch it before you see the second one, or else the second one won't make sense.
