Plot Summary

Life seems perfect for John Brennan (Russell Crowe) until his wife, Lara (Elizabeth Banks), is arrested for a murder she says she didn't commit. Three years into her sentence, John is struggling to hold his family together, raising their son Luke (Ty Simpkins) and teaching at community college while he pursues every means available to prove her innocence. With the rejection of their final appeal, Lara becomes suicidal and John decides there is only one possible, bearable solution: to break his wife out of prison. Refusing to be deterred by impossible odds or his own inexperience, John devises an elaborate escape plot and plunges into a dangerous and unfamiliar world, ultimately risking everything for the woman he loves.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The movie is a caper without playfulness or wit -- it's accomplished but not much fun. – David Denby, New Yorker, Nov 22, 2010

Rotten: It's laughably, eye-rollingly absurd, so you don't watch it and wonder, "Hey, why not?" You endure it and wonder, "So ... why did they do that?" – Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News, Nov 19, 2010

Fresh: While the performances are solid and there are a handful of truly suspenseful moments, this thriller fails to rise above the formula. – Annette Basile, FILMINK (Australia), Feb 1, 2011

Fresh: This is a terrific film with a final reel guaranteed to have you digging your fingers into your armrest. – Jim Schembri, The Age (Australia), Feb 2, 2011

A True Thriller.

This movie is a true thriller.
Emotional. Gripping. Engaging. I kept moving around in my chair because of how uncomfortable I was - due to the fact that I did not know what was going to happen. I wanted one thing to happen, but there was nothing in the movie leading me to accurately predict the outcome of the movie. Near the end of the escape sequences, I sort of guessed what would happen, but even still, I wasn't sure. You may be a little more observant than me and therefore be able to make a sure prediction, but, even if you find it predictable, I have no doubt you will find it suspenseful.
There is a lot of conflict in the movie. Personal conflict within the lead character. Russell Crowe does a really good job playing this part. The lady playing his wife does a really good job as well.
Most of the movie leads and builds up the the chases scenes. Every moment in the movie is captivating.
I'm sure you will not be disappointed. But, I won't say that you will love the movie. You may simply think that it is a worthy movie rental, none-the-less, it WILL be worth your money.

this movie was great!

Very different. Good movie

I'm always looking for more action than I should expect probably. This movie is slow at parts but it's not boring during the slow pace parts. They really mess with you at the end. Over all great acting, direction and all that. Russell Crow shines again. The rest of the cast was great. Russell Crow was just in the spotlight more. And this was not the same type of movie as Law Biding Citizen. Not sure what movie Trey Mentor was watching but you might want to get glasses and a hearing aid.
