Plot Summary

As teenagers, Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling) begin a whirlwind courtship that soon blossoms into tender intimacy. The young couple is quickly separated by Allie’s upper-class parents who insist that Noah isn’t right for her. Several years pass, and when they meet again, their passion is rekindled, forcing Allie to choose between her soulmate and class order. This beautiful tale has a particularly special meaning to an older gentleman (James Garner) who regularly reads the timeless love story to his aging companion (Gena Rowlands). Based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook is at once heartwarming and heartbreaking and will capture you in its sweeping and emotional force.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The movie not only approaches a level of shamelessness you have to see to disbelieve, it does it in a manner that's both inept and crass. – Charles Taylor, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: An old-fashioned and occasionally schmaltzy movie that delivers an emotional wallop sure to elicit tears from all but those with truly intractable hearts. – Ruthe Stein, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Two hours of the worst sort of sentimental sap. – Jack Mathews, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: How rare to see a film that says there is still a value system out there, that being thoughtful and caring is not uncool. – Rex Reed, New York Observer, Jun 24, 2010

All Time Great

Few movies evoke such powerful emotions as "The Notebook." When compared with movies that are considered to be timeless classics such as "Casablanca" , "The Notebook" certainly holds its own. While not cinematically spectacular, the plot and dialog are extremely moving, to the point of evoking an emotional response, even from the most hardened male psyche. True love could not be captured much more eloquently on film.... Five stars, two thumbs up, and the whole bucket of popcorn!!!

The Greatest Love Story is Finally Here!!!

How about TEN stars? This movie is simply amazing. It's the only film out there that makes me believe in true love. The lesson here is to not give up on love and fight for matters of the heart. Fantastic movie, definitely worth the buy. Thank you, iTunes!!!

finally!

Out of all the great movies on Itunes, this may be the BEST. Agree?
