Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: A sense of reality is essential, and it's sorely lacking.
Rotten: A picture that leaves one thinking less about the fates of the characters than about how the actors had to spend most of their working days soaking wet.
Fresh: This movie is capable of hitting you with gale force.
Fresh: The Perfect Storm is much more than a seagoing Twister.

alwesome!!!!
This is ones the bests movies that I have watched in a long time, Leadership, fellowship and comradeship, unifying the man in a major life surviving, just awesome. I felt disappointed in the end, but I give up, life is what is, there is no what if the end was different. I am touched, for this movie.
Awesome movie!!!
Great cast, great story, great acting. Love the movie and happy to see it available on Itunes.
Coast Guard boat in the movie
My son was in the Coast Guard when this movie was released. He waited to see it until I came to visit.
At the time he was stationed in California but we are a New England family and as the movie opened we looked at each other and said that's our ocean, not the Pacific.
The story was well translated to film from the book. It also gives one a good feel for the life of a northeasten fisherman and for the doomed crew, a fine and respectful feel for their fate.
The ONLY problem with the movie was not quite the fault of the makers, but I do not really know who did this.. there was a Coast Guard boat that was involved in one of the rescues in real life as well as the book and movie.
She was the WME 166 USCGC Tamaroa, which my son had been stationed on but by the time of the storm had been transfered off. She's kind of a different looking boat, having been a former navel cutter called the Zuni.
The point I'm getting to is that in seas such as the storm, the captain can refuse to take the boat out, feeling the situation is likely to result in the loss of the boat and crew.
The Captain took the boat out, and not one crew member refused to go. And they did rescue all who they went to rescue. A 300 foot cargo ship sank in the storm and the Tam was a lot less than the cargo ship.
The Coast Guard goes out so that others may live. I'm proud of that boat.
And the well done movie
