Plot Summary
Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning lead a stellar ensemble cast including Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Sophie Okonedo, and Paul Bettany in this wonderful film about family, independence and the transcendent power of love based on the acclaimed best-selling novel. To escape her cruel, angry father, and discover the truth about her late mother’s past, 14-year old Lily Owens flees with her caregiver and friend Rosaleen to a South Carolina town where she’s taken in by the bee-keeping Boatwright sisters. Surrounded by the unexpected love, grace and spirituality she encounters there, Lily forms a bond with each of these uniquely gifted women and discovers that sometimes you must leave home in order to find it.

Fresh: The filmmakers give Latifah and Fanning room to create characters that breathe in the sweet smell of clover and breathe out the contented sigh of independence.

Rotten: The honey runs thick in The Secret Life of Bees, and so does the treacle.

This movie has an amazingly talented cast, and it shows. I loved the book, and I loved the movie as well. It is a must buy. This movie is not only entertaining, it has depth and heart, which you don't find in many movies. I highly recommend it!

This book was the BEST I had read in many years when I read it after it was first published. I gave a copy to all of my sisters. When I saw the movie, I was not disappointed. It was as good as the book. I will buy this movie in a heartbeat!
