Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: In the hands of a director more suited to the material The Soloist might have been a deeply moving experience. Here, we know something important is being played out before us, and there are times when it hits home with force. But in their exercise of dram – Jonathan F. Richards, Film.com, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: There's no crescendo in Joe Wright's drama. – Don Groves, sbs.com.au, Dec 29, 2010

Fresh: As a film, even in the hands of Atonement director Joe Wright and with talents such as the amazing Downey Jnr, Foxx and Keener, our emotional experience is strangely muted – Louise Keller, Urban Cinefile, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: There's something about The Soloist's aura of religiosity that seems simplistic. An unsatisfying, jarring note, in this otherwise hopeful, triumphant story. – Jason Di Rosso, MovieTime, ABC Radio National, Jun 24, 2010

GREAT MOVIE!!!

I think Jamie Foxx did an incredible job on this movie. I can't think of anyone better (except for heath ledger...RIP!!) who could have played this role as he did. Definitely worth the money. If you're emotional in life stories like this one, then it'll get you worked up :) people say its hard to follow, but once the movie gets going, it all fits together. Hit yes if you agree!

WOW

Jamie Foxx should win an Oscar for his performance in this movie. Robert Downey Jr. was good, but Jamie Foxx just outshone everyone, similar to Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Even if the story does'nt sound so great to you, you should at least rent it to be able to say you witnessed one of the best acting performances ever.

Excellent Film!!

Not only does the movie have the highest echelon in acting with Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr. but the story is one that all of us should be aware; to think this is a true portrayal of one talented person's struggles, challenges, etc on the Streets of LA & being a former student of Juilliard is absolutely unbelievable until you follow the storyline of the movie and then you have a better understanding of the serious plight of the homelessness. 90K homeless in LA!! how many other Mr. Ayers are living along the streets all across this Country night to night? Most will never develop a friendship such as between Stephen Lopez and Mr. Ayers. This is a beautiful movie, touching but yet serious story, that certainly Mr. Foxx should be highly considered for an Oscar.
