Plot Summary
Once upon a time...in the far away kingdom of Dor...lived a brave and virtuous mouse with comically oversized ears who dreamt of becoming a knight. Banished from his home for having such lofty ambitions, Despereaux sets off on an amazing adventure with his good-hearted rat friend Roscuro, who leads him, at long last, on a very noble quest to rescue an endangered princess and save an entire kingdom from darkness. Based on the heartwarming children's bestselling book and featuring the voice talents of an all-star cast, The Tale of Despereaux is a magical, modern fairytale that's destined to win the hearts of young and old alike.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Despereaux is a pleasantly immersive, beautifully animated, occasionally sleepy tale.
Fresh: Despereaux is a rare creature, not only for the handmade look and subtlety of its computer-generated imagery but also for its irony-free embrace of once-upon-a-time storytelling.
Rotten: The imagery is colorful and artfully rendered, but the filmmakers, favoring technological wizardry over story, have beefed up the narrative with teeming rodent civilizations, a seafaring sequence, and gladiatorial action pieces.
Rotten: Despereaux is a little too desperate to be loved.
Customer Reviews
Cute as a movie, not great for fans.
When I saw movie in theaters last December, I was expecting a movie that was true to the book--and was greatly disapointed. By itself, the movie is charming, the casting is very good and the stories are entwined into one beautifully. But if compared to the book, it is very disappointing. Both should be regarded as seperate and enjoyed seperately.
something's missing...
I saw this movie last night. There are so many changes from the book it's crazy! I don't know about you, but it wasn't one of my faves.
This is a MOVIE???!!!
I can't believe anyone would call this a movie. It's nothing like the book. Compared with the book, this is like a documentary. I'd rather watch Barney.
