Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Hemsworth, an Aussie actor with a vocal command to match his heaving brawn, doesn't just play the role, he owns it.
Fresh: There is pleasure to be plundered from some of the battle scenes, especially when Thor is confronting ice monsters with blood-red eyes, and from the culture clash that resounds when he descends to present-day Earth...
Fresh: A giant notch up is Hiddleston, who'd make a good Edmund in King Lear: You register the chip on his shoulder rather than the villainy.
Rotten: The ripping outer-space fights are the main attraction, and they're mostly entertaining, though not in a way that will make you feel good about yourself.

A SUPERHERO FILM UNLIKE ANY OTHER!
Like many others, I had little to no idea who Thor was before his big screen debut, other than the fact that he's one of the most original and unusual superheroes in the Marvel Universe and also the fact that he tends to speak in an oddly stereotypical Olde English accent. Plus, he's the God of Thunder, so that one piece of information was enough to immediately capture my interest. Still, I had my doubts about whether the film would meet or even exceed my expectations, especially considering the director was none other than Kenneth Branagh (who's mostly known for directing a number of acclaimed renditions based on Shakespearean plays, such as "Hamlet" and "Henry V").
Nevertheless, I decided to see "Thor" on opening day simply out of sheer curiosity and excitement. And let's just say by the time I walked out of the theatre, my heart was still beating out of my chest! Not only did it turn out to be one of the most surprisingly epic movies of the summer, but it made me realize that I should never doubt Branagh's genius direction again. Where do I even begin? How about the acting, for starters? Chris Hemsworth is perfectly cast as the titular character. He's incredibly believable as an arrogant supernatural god, plus he more than proves himself as a fierce fighting machine not to be reckoned with. In addition, Anthony Hopkins gives an outstanding performance as Odin, Thor's father and the ruler of Asgard. Even Tom Hiddleston as the villainous slimeball Loki is so convincing, you just wanna punch him through the screen at times!
That's not to say there weren't some slight missteps in the film. For instance, there's Natalie Portman, who stars as our hero's inevitable love interest (a character that can be found in almost every superhero ever made). While she does come off as charming and memorable playing Jane Foster, an eager astrophysicist centered in a small New Mexico town, she still doesn't give the credible and emotional performance you expect from an Academy Award-winning actress like her. Also, I'm pretty sure Kat Dennings was in the movie solely to provide mild comic relief and nothing more.
But aside from those small disappointments, I THORoughly enjoyed myself the entire time I watched "Thor". Most of the acting was strong and believable, the action sequences offered a ton of suspense and never let up (not even for a moment), the visual and technical brilliance of the mythical realm of Asgard was mind-blowing, and the story and script were smart and smoothly played out. Overall, I would say it's an incredibly original and entertaining superhero movie that really packs a punch. So if you're a big fan of fantasy and action films, chances are you're gonna love "Thor"!
Oh yeah, and did I forget to mention that watching this flick is the perfect way to gear up for arguably one of the most anticipated Marvel movies of all time: "The Avengers"? Buckle your seatbelts, people, because the ride has only just begun!
dude

The Best Superhero movie of the summer!
In a summer jam packed with FOUR supehero movies, Thor comes out on top. Although not as good as Iron Man, no where near the heights of The Dark Knight, this adition to comic book adaptation history is vastly memorable and...A MUST BUY :)
