this movine is such an eye opener and a tear jerker.. i think ALL people of ALL ages should watch this movie, over and over to make aware that even name calling, or talking about also hurts other people..
Simply one of the best movies i have ever seen...
Simply one of the best movies I have ever seen! I have worked with teenagers for almost 30 years. I have seen small town 'values' and Christian 'morals' keep some of the most beautiful kids from showing who they truly were. Some eventually came out when they were adults, but some didn't, and some died.
This movie examines a cultural view of what we call "gay" ....a beautiful, respectful view of understanding different people from a Navajo cultural perspective. The Navajo believe that there are 4 genders- male, feminine male, female and masculine female. And that the feminine male and masculine female occupy the spaces between the genders, a revered space reserved for special people- who traditionally were healers, spiritual advisors, caregivers...and they held a special place in the tribe. They have been 'allowed' to marry for centuries, and were sought out, not shunned.
As I watched, i was horrified at how our white culture has perverted something that has been in existence since life began, has touted their "gay tolerance", all the while turning aside and separating these precious people...
Simply LOVE this movie...will watch it again and will show it to my students...all of them.
Amazing
Being a Gay Navajo, I thought thus movie was extremely well put together. I had a chance to view the screening and talk with the director. She was amazing in how she was able to produce this from her vision. The message was strong and moving. Highly recommend this movie.
